Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis, PORTO

The Museum is housed in an 18th-century mansion in the former Palacio das Carrancas on Rua de Dom Manuel II. Its highlights include works by the 19th-century sculptor Soares dos Reis and his pupil Teixeira Lopes, a collection of Bohemian glass and Vista Alegre porcelain and the naturalist paintings of the 19th-century Porto School.

The Museum holds one of worldwide four over-lifesize versions of Jean d´Aire, bronze, H. 80,75". The sculpture formerly was in the collection of C. S. Gulbenkian, who purchased it from Paul Rosenberg in 1918.

This Museum shows paintings, sculpture and decorative art from the 19th and 20th Century.

Although the Museum does not seem to have an own Website and most museum directories mix it up with the Museu Nacional d´Art de Catalunya MNAC or the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona MACBA, the MAM should be mentioned here as an owner of a bronze cast of The Age of Bronze, foundry mark Alexis Rudier (dark brown patina).
