H. de Roos - Rodin´s Approach to Art

6. Predecessors and teachers

Although Rodin seeks to go new and radical ways in sculpture, he well recognises that his own approach has historical roots. Openly, even gratefully, he speaks of the exceptional artists who influenced and educated him, and discusses their example to define his own method:

A. The Greek and Roman sculptors

B. The builders of the French Cathedrals

C. The Renaissance sculptors Michelangelo and Ghiberti

D. Carrier-Belleuse, Carpeaux, Barye
